‘Duality III’

ABOUT
The third painting in a series of four, produced during the lockdown months of 2020.
Thematically linked via style, medium and palette; each piece stands individually but they can also be considered as a collection.
Each painting combines elements of Japanese and contemporary tattoo art, in contrast with a modern take on ancient geometric patterns.
The artistic process begins with the creation of intricate hand-cut stencils, and ends in the relatively quick technique of spray painting.
In essence, the processes, like the elements in the artwork, are contrasting and complimentary.
The tumbling blocks pattern in the background here was used as far back as Ancient Greece. It has long been a favourite of mine. The ‘flower of life’ motif has been used by many cultures and can be seen in the temple of Osiris in Ancient Egypt.
